Day six of 30 days wild.
The mudlings still at home with an inset day, these extra days feeling too precious to waste – especially now the sun is shining at long last.
We decided to visit one of our favourite places; Ickworth Park near Bury St Edmunds.
I swear each time we think we finally have explored every last inch of it, we are proved spectacularly wrong.
Even the bits of the park I know like the back of my hand never fail to knock my socks off.
Looks awful right? π
Today I was also in the mood to find a Geocache. It’s been a few days after all. π
According to my GPS we need to take a path that before now, we’ve not yet explored.
Not quite sure how that’s possible, but off we go.
A gentle path past majestic trees and babbling streams. This being us, we took a while to get there.
Majestic trees of course need to be climbed…
and babbling streams absolutely have to be investigated from every possible angle.
It really is a wonder that we ever make it anywhere. π
Finally the GPS indicated we were nearing the cache.
Taking a little used path between the trees we walked into a truly lovely glade. Lined with stunning trees and a brook which was flashing with the bright blue wings of hunting Kingfishers.
(Or Fish Tits as my six year old insists they are called. Please may she never stop.)
My GPSr indicated that the cache was over the stream in one of those trees shown above. Given However that the cache is called roots and shoots and I was standing next to this…
….I suspect that the GPS is fibbing. π
The most obvious thing to do is scramble down the bank, just possible without getting completely drenched, and the cache is quickly found by the mini cacher.
With the log signed, the kids are keen to explore the roots and hide the cache away.
Then of course it simply has to be time for a paddle.
I confess to being a spoilsport and kept my shoes on but I did take the perilous branch bridge across.
New trainers too…it’s a dangerous game I play…
Don’t be surprised if tomorrow’s post involves a wild camp in the beloved roots. π
It proves very tricky to leave.
In fact only Ice-cream bribery is enough to tempt them away. Sensible kids of mine.
Fish tits is inspired! Told you I’d be rubbish at keeping up this wild malarkey once we got back from holiday walking – I sat in the garden today and watched some bees, does that count?!

You should hear her say Kentucky Fried Chicken…π±
Bees definitely count. If wild cocktails (Hello!) count then bees absolutely do.

Those roots are amazing! I’ve been attempting 30dayswild on Instagram. Easy the first week whilst on holiday but much harder now that I’m back at
work again!

One thing about having such a high maintenance hound is it means that I have to get out for a long walk everyday. Makes 30 days wild much easier. π
